The South African reserve bank has officially launched a new set of bank notes and coins. The new banknotes and coins will consist of enhanced security features and have a new design featuring the country’s heritage.
What has changed on the notes and coins?
The biggest changes to the bank notes are the big five is now represented with their families and the note colour is deeper. The R5 coin will contain a southern right whale. The R2 coin will feature a springbok and the R1 coin will contain a protea flower. There will also be a 50-cent coin, and this will feature an actual bird.
